Developing leaders who

What is Crew to Leader 101?

Crew to Leader 101 is a 6-module, self-paced leadership development program for emerging leaders where you’ll learn about yourself as a leader, develop practical leadership skills and apply what you learn in your day-to-day work.

You’ve been enrolled in Crew to Leader because someone in your organisation sees leadership potential in you.

Your Learning Schedule

Your People & Culture team will set your training schedule and let you know when each module should be completed. The program is self-paced within that schedule, giving you time to work through each module, reflect on what you’ve learned and put your new skills into practice at work.

Here’s what you will learn:

Crew to Leader is all about helping you build practical leadership skills you can use on the job even without a leadership title.

Across 6 online modules, you’ll learn more about yourself as a leader, how you impact the people around you and the everyday behaviours that help build a strong crew.

1. What kind of leader do you want to be?

You’ll start by thinking about the kind of leader you want to become, how you want to be known within your crew, and the impact you want to have on the people around you.

You’ll identify the personal standards you want to set for yourself.

2. You don’t need a title to lead

Leadership isn’t just about having a title, it’s about how you show up.

In this module, you’ll explore what good leadership looks like, identify your own leadership strengths and choose practical actions you can start putting into practice straight away.

3. Create a positive impact on you and your crew

You’ll take a closer look at how you show up within your crew and the impact your actions, attitude and communication can have on the people around you.

You’ll also identify practical ways you can contribute to stronger teamwork and a more positive working environment.

4. Leading by example

You’ll identify the standards that matter to you and the things you’re not willing to compromise on when it comes to areas like safety, accountability, communication and professionalism.

You’ll also look at how you can demonstrate those standards through your own actions every day.

5. Proactive leader

Great leaders don’t always wait to be told what to do.

In this module, you’ll look at how you currently take initiative, speak up, act early and take ownership. You’ll identify opportunities to become more proactive and build the confidence to step up when it matters.

6. Setting goals for proactive leadership

In your final module, you’ll reflect on what you’ve learned, recognise the leadership behaviours you’ve started putting into practice, and set yourself a practical leadership goal to continue working towards on the job.

The aim is to take what you’ve learned throughout the program and keep building on it every day.

How It Works

Throughout the program, you’ll use this process to turn what you learn into practical leadership skills you can use every day.

1. Identify the leadership skill or behaviour you want to focus on and develop.

2. Choose how you want to improve and what you’d like to do differently.

3. Action your learning by practising the new skill in real situations at work.

4. Reflect on how it went, what worked well and what you could adjust or improve next time.

Then, keep practising and reflecting until the skill becomes part of how you lead.

From there, identify what you want to work on next and keep building your leadership toolkit.
